Hello BeUTfulDisaster
Welcome to the family, I'm glad you've jumped in and joined us here. It's no wonder you're feeling a little lost and distressed with the recent diagnosis, it's a lot to take in isn't it, breathe, take your good time! We're all out here for you, you are not alone.
How's your daughter received the diagnosis? My daughter opted for DBT, there was a years waiting list (UK). During that time she attended alcohol rehabilitation, they also worked on getting her meds right for depression, anxiety, psychosis... .DBT was outpatients weekly for 14 months, skills group and one to one therapy.
There was a choice of Schema, shorter treatment, shorter waiting list, she hung out for DBT as following diagnosis she read 'Mindfulness for Borderline Personality Disorder: Relieve Your Suffering Using the Core Skill of Dialectical Behavior Therapy' Blaise Aguirre, a powerful validating experience for her, someone understood!
Has your daughter a recommended treatment plan yet? What behaviours are you dealing with?
Welcome again.

Hello BeUTfulDisaster,
I join WDx in saying welcome to this place. I'm sorry you are feeling lost and distressed. Unfortunately that place is place most of us have been at some point in time. The good news is it can get better!
I consider you lucky to have a DX at an early age, my D didn't get DX until she was 30 and had 1 child. I always knew she had issues Autism spectrum, ADD, anxiety, depression--you name it. I didn't know where to start. The clarity came when she showed me the DX that was given to her while she was homeless and living on the streets with my grandson in New Mexico. Then all the pieces came together and I knew where to start. I found this place and have been here ever since, this is my only support.
You asked about therapy, that's a hard road to navigate, there are so many approaches to choose from. My D has been in and out of therapy for years. Nothing really seemed to help her. When I came here I found out about S.E.T. man let me tell you it's hard, but it works. Right now she going to new therapy called R.E.M.D.T that means rapid eye movement desensitization therapy. BPD's don't self regulate, they meltdown, I would call my D the queen of meltdowns. This treatment works on helping them to recognize when they are frustrated, scared. It teaches them to self sooth using visualization and meditation. She just started a month ago but, she likes it, I'm all for that. I know she can learn these things about herself, she is so smart.
Any way, I hope you get lots of feed back on this. Please share if and what you decide on.

Hi BeUTfulDisaster,
Welcome to the board! I'm new as well.
My 15 year old daughter and I did DBT family group sessions weekly, along with her DBT therapist weekly. We've seen good results. All of this was outpatient, finding long term residential around here (KS), is tough, especially if you are BPD. The waiting lists are really long. Fortunately, the change in meds and the DBT therapy seem to be making a positive result.
