It’s been almost a year since my daughter abruptly left university and returned home. We have been supporting her through the ups and downs of her diagnosis of BPD. A recent relapse into cutting behaviour has promoted me to seek support for myself to inhabit the caring triangle. I appreciate this opportunity to connect with other parents.

Hello DMauder
Welcome to the family, I'm sorry to hear your daughter's recently relapsed to cutting, how long has she managed to cope, refrain, was it by using new skills she's learnt? What I learnt is progress is not linear, it's small, gentle steps and they may drop the shoe from time to time, and get back on the pony again.
I love your reference to the caring triangle, as you seek support for yourself, this is such a wonderful, safe and caring place and wonderful parents here have supported me through the darkest of times 2015/16. Things can improve for our children, when we look after ourselves and learn to understand their world, their challenges and make changes ourselves that support them as they walk forwards. One thing my 30DD said to me following 14 months DBT, is she is grateful to
feel kindness and gratitude
having lived through the three degree burns of raging mental health. I'm now 3 years in since diagnosis and here on the forum, with you. That's a bit about be, to give you hope.
How's day to day life for you and family right now, do you get time to take out self care?

Hi DMauder
Welcome to bpdfamily! You've come to the right place for support and to connect with other parents. In my experience, posting here is like getting thousands of dollars worth of therapy for free. I only wish I found it sooner.
