My son has BPD
«

I am new to this group. My son has been having mental health issues for 10 years. He has been diagnosed with major depression disorder. I think he has BPD, and he does too.
He is currently hospitalized for a Suicide attempt. I think this is his third attempt.
He will be getting out tomorrow but I am scared that I am going to lose him to suicide. I feel helpless.

My heart goes out to you. My little BPD sister took her life 19 years ago. My BPD daughter has attempted twice and still throws it in my face that I saved her. Know that you and your son are one step ahead if he is thinking about explanations for his illness.
I have a couple of questions for you to mull over: Can you find a therapist in your area that does Dialectic Behavioural Therapy? Would you and your son be up for taking a meditation course? (perhaps there is a Buddhist or mindfulness centre nearby)
The fact that you are reaching out, looking for support and answers means that you are only feeling momentarily helpless (for obvious reasons); take all the emotions you have and use them to propel you into being the wonderful, supportive, purposeful mother you always have been, are and will continue to be.

Do you have support from professionals on a safety plan going forward and does he live with you? We've seen parents here who do have support and those who don't, both of which being rough but with no support even more so.
What triggered his latest attempt?
