My son has BPD.  I just figured out he’s sick — not just a awful person.  I’m staying with him for at least a month.  He’s 25 but has the maturity of a 12-year-old.  His father died and left me nothing.  He changed his beneficiary to our son.  So now my brother-in-law is his trustee and I’m the only one who really cares about, but I’m often scared of him.  He has anger issues and smashes his hand through walls, doesn’t pay his bills, has a hard time keeping a job, and constantly talks about killing himself.  He’s in counseling for three weeks for 6 hours a day, but they haven’t given him a diagnosis yet.  Everyone else in his group has one.  Could they just be hiding it from him to shelter him?  They have to see it.  He’s been there for 5 days now!

Hello ElephantGirl
Welcome to the group. I am glad you joined us. I am sorry for what you are going through with your son. My 25 year old son also has BPD so I know how hard it can be. When you say you are scared of him what do you mean? What are you afraid of?

Welcome. My kiddo does not have a BPD diagnosis but they sure do have a lot of the behaviours. So I'm going more on what I can do so that I can be okay with being strong and also supporting them.

It's hard and painful and it's good you are here and reading and posting. It sounds like they are in treatment and working towards finding the best way to support your son through.

That's hopeful and it's good they are there.

Take care.
