Does anyone have anything to say about Grove School in CT? It's a private pay, boarding therapeutic high school.

Looks good on paper and website. BUT, theres a long thread on Reddit on how awful it is.

Hi,
We are looking into this school as well.  We did hire an educational attorney and he has placed a number of his clients at Grove - his clients have done really well.

The therapists I have spoken with in CT have said they have heard good things about the school.

That said - I have no first hand knowledge.

It's crazy expensive... can I ask how you are (would) fund it? Is school paying some? Have you found any grants or scholarships? I've been looking but haven't found anything

Hi,

Our daughter has an IEP, so we have asked the public school for an out of district placement.  They have not said yes yet.  That is why we have an educational attorney to assist us.  We can't afford it any other way.

We actually are not looking at Grove, her therapists think she would do better in a single gender (all female) placement.   We are looking at Wellspring in CT - however we found out this morning that they do not think she is a good fit. Frustrated/Unfortunate (click to insert in post)  I don't know why yet...

Hey, popping in from Family Law  Welcome new member (click to insert in post)

If it were me, I'd keep in mind that anyone can post on Reddit. So, it could be a lot of disgruntled teens trying to make the place sound bad. Might actually be a good sign  Laugh out loud (click to insert in post)

Wellspring was recommended to us, but we live too far away to be accepted.

Smomruby:

Both Wellspring and Grove are in CT
Wellspring is a long term residential program (all girls in residence) with a Therapeutic day school (co-ed) . emphasis is placed on the therapy, with education secondary.

Grove is a co-ed  therapeutic day and boarding school, emphasis on education, therapy secondary.

I do not think it matters how far away you are if you are looking for residential placement for either location.   However I do know that for both schools you must submit an informational packet (education, psychiatric testing, etc) first so they can determine if they think your child is a "fit" before you get to see the campus and evaluate them and see if you think you might want to place your child there.
