If we can do this imagine what we can do and are doing right now for the environment it has lowered pollution - what if if we can halt everything schools, workplaces, businesses every now and then to help with pollution?

Try it, wake up to Chinese cars everywhere, German, whatever.

I have bought a Ford before, (young and naive) it was relatively cheaper than other alternatives, I felt it was good value overall. I then had an Audi that cost double as much, the comparison in quality was more than double (better overall value). What

I wouldnt do is buy that same Ford for the same price as the Audi, no-one in their right minds would.

It is for that reason that they wont shut down businesses and factories, economically insustainable in a global competitive driven market.

Once the Covid problem has abated, everyone is back to the sound of their respective master's whip with avengeance to make up for the lost productivity. (for those that have a job to return to, millions will not). The trillions dished out, is not playing fair by the rules, it is why capitalism is a failure, has been a failure, and is destined to fail, it has never been able to stand on its own two feet without a welfare check. Private companies keeping their profits and socialising their losses, what we are witnessing, there is only so far papering over fundamental cracks can go on for.

I think business will profoundly change as a result of this. Certainly much can be conducted remotely without those ridiculous time-consuming in-person meetings.

And why build enormous corporate headquarters which are expensive to maintain?

Much less traffic, happier employees, perhaps localized office buildings with small rooms to rent, for people whose home environment is too chaotic.

There is a quote that goes something like "Capitalism is the worst economic system, except for all others."  Pointing out the flaws of capitalism is easy, but all other systems have even more severe flaws.  The benefit of capitalism is that it gives more control to the individual, while all others give "somebody else" control over your life.  That "somebody else" isn't an angel.  So, just as capitalism fails due to the sin of man, so do all other systems.

I'm going to second the thought about Capitalism being "bad" until you compare it to others.

Here is the thing...at least we know about, can comment on and can vote for leaders that have different ideas about the "trillions being handed out".

Many people have no choice.

Does anyone really believe the  figures and reporting that have come out of China about covid or related matters.

Best,

China is amazing!  Pretty much not a single case or death in the past 2 months.  It's as impressive as a dictator getting 100% of the vote in an election.   Way to go! (click to insert in post)

I don't believe anything that is being reported from China at the moment.

And I agree that capitalism is imperfect, but socialism is worse.

This crisis has certainly exposed a lot of issues that need attention. But they don't have clear solutions. History has shown us that utopian socialism doesn't work very well.

So I am looking at this as a COVID off topic thread.  Has anyone else noticed that with everyone with stay at home orders, they are actually outside more?  On my residential street, I see people walking dogs, riding bikes far more than normal.  No one is getting close to each other, but neither are most people spending their time indoors either.

Yes, people are outside more. Although this is a global catastrophe- some good things can come from anything. Families are spending more time together ( and that's good and they are probably getting on each other's nerves ) and going outside to take a walk to get out of the house- which is good too.

As to the China topic. I think we also need to be careful about how we word it. A sweet friend who is Chinese-American has been upset by some comments on social media.   There's a difference between commenting on the government policies of a country, or the origin of the virus and personally offensive comments, but social media is easily misinterpreted. Emotions are running high with everyone, and we know from this board ( as pwBPD tend to do this, but everyone can in a high emotional state )how easy it is to misinterpret things in that situation.

This situation has brough out the best in some people and the worst in others and the divisive political rhetoric and hateful comments on social media are also apparent unfortunately.

But so are the entertaining ones. Funny family music videos, music from professional musicians. Being sequestered has brought out some creativity.
