Adult daughter

My 25 year old daughter was recently diagnosed with BPD after a suicide attempt and mental health arrest. She was inpatient for 13 days and then discharged with a plan for partial outpatient hospitalization which she refused. She is now with me and has a pending outpatient therapy appointment this upcoming week to start individual therapy… I’m not sure she will go. She is so sad crying and saying she doesn’t want to keep living if this is her life. This has been and continues to be a nightmare. Any support/advice is welcome.
Thank you.

Hi Marchatuck and welcome to the family. You and your dd are suffering so much at this time and I expect your anxiety is just sky high.
I know that terrible feeling when you know your dd has an appointment, but you can't be sure they will keep it. I have had this experience so many, many times and it is an awful way to pass a few days - will she, won't she, what will happen if she doesn't etc.
It sounds as though dd was not quite ready to be discharged. She is very sad and in this state it is very hard to expect her to have the energy to keep appointments etc - the things she needs to do to keep improving.
I am wondering if you have thought of the options you have if she doesn't keep the appointment? If she threatens self harm, perhaps you can get the hospital involved again?
These things are so tricky with someone with BPD. If you take steps to help you can be demonised and even cut off - and then who is there to help them.
I hope you will post again to let us know how things are going. In the meantime you are very much in my thoughts.
