Family Connections program: sharing my experience
«

Last week, I signed up for the Family Connections BPD program. I thought I'd share my experiences here to help others decide if the class is right for them. "Conflicted/Coparenting" is my home board, though I know that many members who might be interested in FC may be on other boards.
The signup process involved filling in standard personal info (name/address/email/first and second language/etc), along with selecting from a dropdown menu the pwBPD's relationship to you (child, spouse, ex, etc). I chose "other" to cover my H's kids' mom. You do need to know the pwBPD's birth month and year and fill those in. It didn't say why, though my guess is to make sure that you aren't in a class with that person. You can enter up to 2 pwBPD (to cover if you have a child and ex, or child and parent, etc, not just one pwBPD in your life).
You can select which times of day and week work for you, from the following: Eastern Time a.m., Pacific Time a.m./ET p.m., Pacific Time p.m., and Saturdays &/or Sundays.
You must disclose if you are a clinician.
There is a field where you can write any additional comments or questions.
Additionally, if you want to take the class with one to two other persons (spouse, for example), each of you must register separately but on the same day. You can check a box in your own registration indicating you want to attend with the other person(s) and enter their email addresses.
...
After I submitted my registration, I received a notification email. It indicated there was a 4-6 month wait. I think this is down from the 5-6 month wait I believe I saw elsewhere on the site. The email also linked to a special "Getting Introduced to FC" section on the NEABPD website that had a brief ~2.5 minute video, plus links to recommended resources (hotlines/treatment centers), books(many of which are in our Book Review section), and FAQ's (wait times, if a diagnosis is required [no], etc).
I haven't received any more emails since the one on the day of registration.
And for those who don't know, there is no cost or charge for the class.
...
I look forward to updating this in 4-6 weeks with more info!

I had never heard of it before, but I'll ask my non-daughter if she wants to take it with me. It certainly can't hurt with multiple BPD's on my wife's side of the family.

Finally got the enrollment email! So that's looking like a >6month wait. The email said that there are currently >2000 persons on the waitlist. Again, this is for the Family Connections: BPD/emotional dysregulation course, not the Family Connections: suicidality/trauma recovery course. At one point there was no waitlist for the suicidality course.
Classes start near the end of next month. I'll let you know how it goes.

I didn't know about this resource. Seems it could be helpful to many people.
