Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

Recovering and Learning From a Relationship Breakup

Summary: The Learning aspect of this board is a place to come after the anxiety and wounds are expressed, to learn about relationships, human nature, the difference between dysfunction and normal relationship difficulties, and how to make better choices. This is also a place for relationship postmortems, divorce recovery and personal inventory as well as a place to talk about new beginnings and dating.

Audience: Members that been spurned or have evaluated the emotional health of their relationship and have decided that it is best to detach and move on.

Objective: "Learning" is a place to come after the anxiety and wounds are expressed, to learn about relationships, human nature, the difference between dysfunction and normal relationship difficulties, and how to make better choices.

General Approach: Many members have had more than one relationship with someone with BPD before coming here, many leave and have another, many have had a hard time with relationship break-ups in general, and many develop a paranoia about dating after these experiences that ruin future relationships. "Learning" is a place to come after the anxiety and wounds are expressed, to learn about relationships, human nature, the difference between dysfunction and normal relationship difficulties, and how to make better choices.

Detachment is a multistage process that includes :
  • Acknowledgement
  • Self-inquiry
  • Processing
  • Creative Action
  • Freedom

This board is about Processing, Creative Action, and Freedom.
