We were supposed to have DD placed on hospital/homebound education for the rest of 8th grade (till June 4) but the school wanted her to try finishing her course work in the computer lab and eat her lunch across the hall in the bandroom (where she is in her element) so she wouldn't have to interact with the kids between classes or in the cafeteria (Dx- BPD traits, depression, anxiety including social anxiety and panic disorder) because of anxiety attacks after some verbal bullying and bullying by exclusion.  In the past she rarely would communicate and if she got upset we would hear things like nothings wrong or I don't want to talk about it, then would cut, starve herself for days or purge her food (bulimia was very frequent).  On Sunday night she seemed to be having an anxiety attack about going to school on Monday, cried, told us she didn't want to go, she wasn't worried about the work but the people... .  We were upset that we were going to have to return to the table with the school, but thrilled that she communicated with us through her words and her tears!  Maybe I am reading too much into this one incident, but it does seem like at least a little progress to me!

Our objective is to better understand the struggles our child faces and to learn the skills to improve our relationship and provide a supportive environment and also improve on our own emotional responses, attitudes and effectiveness as a family leaders

Sounds like great progress to me.  Verbalizing how she feels and getting it out instead of keeping the emotions inside and using poor coping mechanisms.  So happy for you and  your DD.

It does sound like progress! 

And it is a huge opportunity for her to find out that if/when she verbalizes her needs and feelings, she will get validation, support and help!

I feel for your dd... .  my dd was bullied at school and she had a hard time there... .  was your dd included in the discussions about how to finish out the year? I think this might help her with her anxiety and stress... .  it doesn't sound like she wants to step foot in that school and I don't blame her but at the same time is she going to miss out on the opportunity to learn some coping skills? Well that was what I was told when my dd was going through hell. It is so hard to know what to do in this kind of situation but maybe including her in the plan might help her start to cope better... .
