My dBPDbf and I are entering into a civil union today
(A PACS for those of you familiar with the French system)
Since this is the board I mostly hang out at, I wanted to share it here. Here's hoping for a happy day!

Congratulations Scarlet!
I don't know the French system, but keeping the union "civil" sounds like a great idea to me!

Vive la France!
I hear from a friend in Paris that that was a very hard fought victory, and it is one that both she and her son are celebrating too. Congratulations!

Thank you all, you're so sweet
We had a nice lunch before the ceremony, then the ceremony (well, the signing of the papers), a quick photo outside, then he had to go back to work. I sent a text message in the afternoon saying that his parents and sister had called to congratulate which he didn't answers.
He came to see me in the evening (we don't live together at the moment) and he was tired and complaining about work. After some talk I said something like it was nice that his family had called to congratulate us and he got really mad saying he didn't want to talk about it (we entering into this union) every five minutes, that he thought I was ridiculous. I got upset but stayed calm, didn't feel like validating much though so I said that I was very happy about our big day and thought it was sad that he felt the need to crush my joy. He left. I cried.
Then he came back today with flowers "to celebrate our union", wanting to take me out to dinner tonight.
Oh, the joy of a BPD relationship!

Awwww-- what Zaqsert said! Sometimes they just don't know what to do with their feelings do they? I know my H can get really finger pointing at me when he's all confused about what he's feeling. Guess it takes the pressure off of them, at least in their heads?
So, what does a civil union mean?

I think you're onto something there

So, what does a civil union mean?
And I agree, it's a good idea to keep the union "civil" like you said earlier
It means that we have registered our partnership with the authorities and that we have more rights as partners. It was originally created for homosexual couples who were not allowed to get married in France, but more and more heterosexual couples do this instead of marriage. It's a sort of "marriage light", not quite all the rights you have as a married couple, but more than a non-registered couple.
And then there's the romantic aspect of it, to official enter into a union or partnership
