How much stress do you take on?

I'm trying to parse a few things and seeing what belongs where.
I'm not really looking for a cure so much as trying to diagnose myself so I know how to attack it.
So, I tend to take on stress easily. I grew up in a household with parents that were sometimes there, sometimes not, one of them when was present, often yelled at me.
I'm wondering if my inability to let little stresses go is from growing up in this kind of environment or it's from being highly sensitive.
Highly Sensitive, is things such as being sensitive to sounds, lights, etc. (One can look it up on google.)
So I was wondering if anyone who is not highly sensitive has realized a higher awareness of sorts and that you've become more easily stressed than the average person?
Anyone shares this or realizes this?

What kinds of things would you consider little stresses?

I also grew up in this kind of environment. I am hypersensitive to loud noise and criticism stemming from the same environment I grew up in.
I figured out what I didn't get those years and am doing exercises to give that to myself. I've been giving myself the gift of self soothing by visualizing my spirit mother giving me an unconditional hug to my inner teenager and spending time doing that.
Creative exercises like this happen to help me. Do you have ways you self soothe when you feel stressed or overwhelmed?
