I had my first visit with a therapist today.  Without mention the BPD word she said it sounds as though my Dil has the traits of a BPD person. I am working on not letting this ruin the good things in my life.  I am not going to change anything just myself.  She praised me for setting limits and sticking to them.  I feel like I am moving forward and not trying to fix my family.  I won't have harmony that I want,  as long as my son stays with her.  I can accept that.  Can't tell you the peace I feel.  I have much to work on but I am going forward.  I will stay with this wonderful message board.  Thankyou for all you help and reading materials.

Hi understandnow ,

I'd like to join Panda39 and HappyChappy in congratulating you on your progress! Doing the right thing (click to insert in post) Great to hear that you've come to a place of acceptance of the things you cannot change which has allowed you to start focusing on the things you can change Smiling (click to insert in post)

She praised me for setting limits and sticking to them.

Setting and enforcing boundaries is indeed very important when dealing with a person with BPD as boundaries help protect your own well-being, regardless of whether the other person changes or not Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)
