As I lay on an ER gurney crying my eyes out asking why, how, why is she so cold, so mean, so unloving... .A wise doctor told me this fable... .

The Scorpion and the Frog

One day, a scorpion looked around at the mountain where he lived and decided that he wanted a change. So he set out on a journey through the forests and hills. He climbed over rocks and under vines and kept going until he reached a river.

The river was wide and swift, and the scorpion stopped to reconsider the situation. He couldn't see any way across. So he ran upriver and then checked downriver, all the while thinking that he might have to turn back.

Suddenly, he saw a frog sitting in the rushes by the bank of the stream on the other side of the river. He decided to ask the frog for help getting across the stream.

"Helloo Mr. Frog!" called the scorpion across the water, "Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the river?"

"Well now, Mr. Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" asked the frog hesitantly.

"Because," the scorpion replied, "If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!"

Now this seemed to make sense to the frog. But he asked. "What about when I get close to the bank? You could still try to kill me and get back to the shore!"

"This is true," agreed the scorpion, "But then I wouldn't be able to get to the other side of the river!"

"Alright then... .how do I know you wont just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?" said the frog.

"Ahh... .," crooned the scorpion, "Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help, that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?"

So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river. He swam over to the bank and settled himself near the mud to pick up his passenger. The scorpion crawled onto the frog's back, his sharp claws prickling into the frog's soft hide, and the frog slid into the river. The muddy water swirled around them, but the frog stayed near the surface so the scorpion would not drown. He kicked strongly through the first half of the stream, his flippers paddling wildly against the current.

Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.

"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?"

The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drownings frog's back.

"I could not help myself. It is my nature."

Then they both sank into the muddy waters of the swiftly flowing river.

Self destruction - "Its my Nature", said the Scorpion... .

Indeed, it is a well known fable that (painfully) reminds you what happened.

Seems you also have to take care of your very young son so please focus on your recovery and your son.

Work on that for the both of you, talk with your family (if possible), etc.

Somewhere you also mentioned that ‘mom’ is somehow still around but neglected and abused your son.

I advise you to start journalising events (today and past!) and seek legal advise.

Post your questions on the Legal section of our Board where members will be more than helpful for you.

Good luck!

It made me sad, it made me cry.
It took me long to understand that these were the most wonderful gifts.
It was all she had to give

This is a very good reminder of why you have to be careful when you attempt to help someone else.

I used to volunteer in a museum that had a large collection of moral paintings.  These would be given to a young couple at the time of their marriage and hung on the wall of their new home to remind them of morals and values.  One of the paintings in our collection featured a cute little family giving some money to a traveling beggar.  If you look closely at the painting, the beggar is about to step into a giant dog turd.  The moral in this painting was to be careful sharing your resources with others -- some will take the help you offer and squander it or throw it away.  Not every person who elicits pity is worthy of our time or help; some people really are irresponsible or they are con artists waiting to gain from our foolishness.

Thank you for your kind responses, this is so strange that I go round in circles, my ex needed constant attention and validation, I seem to need constant validation as well, no matter how much I try to accept being with her and what happened I cannot fully absorb it or believe it. Like a never ending dream I revisit and question what is this about? Why? What strange power do they have or why did I give her so much power. My sponsor tells me she was my God, he's right, I was totally consumed by her and to a degree I still am.

Thank God for this forum. I've heard it said that the only real good thing that comes from suffering is that we share ours with those who have similar experiences and thus help them on their journey to peace. You all have helped me through your suffering and experience. Not everything is lost.

Thank you all. Peace.

… and then the frog, with the venom of the scorpions sting still coursing through his veins, decides he is NOT going to die and defiantly kicks and thrashes his way to the other side of the river. He turns and watches as the scorpion, who is now alone and with no ability to swim on her own, is dragged away by the strong current.  Maybe the scorpion will find another frog to help her, but it will be the same, she will sting that frog and continue her journey trying to keep her head above the water and looking for other frogs to come to her rescue.

The frog has learned a valuable lesson. Kindness is wasted on such a selfish creature. As he lay on his back waiting for the venom to subside another scorpion approaches... “excuse me Mr Frog may I get a lift across the river”…

Love the addition! Unfortunately, the original scorpion may get another ride or two before Mr Frog really learns his lesson! Smiling (click to insert in post)
