My son has emotional dysregulation, he has unstable relationships with others, he has impulsivity. He is a binge drinker (gets black out drunk each time he drinks), he is diagnosed with thought pattern OCD, and he has been diagnosed with ADHD since he was 5 years old. He understands that he needs help with his drinking and is contemplating treatment. He believes that marijuana helps him cope with his anxiety and is seeking a prescriber to help him moderate his use of pot so he can continue in school. I'm so tired at the end of intense interactions with him, all I can do is cry. I need help.

Hi Pnell, Welcome and I hope you will find lots of helpful support and information here! I found this site a few months ago, and it has been really helpful to me. I relate closely to what you wrote, especially that feeling of being so overwhelmed by your son's intensity. I am glad to read that he is willing to work with a prescriber and hope that will help him. I strongly recommend reading the articles on this site and start by trying to get a good grasp on the art of validation in communication. It will help give you direction and feel more empowered. I hope you also have your own support. The great thing about this site is that we share the extreme experiences other people don't understand. Our children have multiple diagnoses and set all the parenting manuals on fire. We love our children dearly and have tried everything we can think of, often to no avail. You are not alone.
