I recently have come to understand that my husband has BPD traits. We met when I was 14 and he 16 and now we are 58 and 60 respectively. We have been married since 1978.  It has been a difficult marriage and we have seen many counselors. The counselor we current see on occasion recommended that I get the Walking on Eggshells book and workbook. This book and workbook explains exactly what it's been like for me. my husband is super high functioning, highly intelligent and very successful at work. Many days I feel like the life is being sucked out of me and I feel sad that his BPD and my lack of knowledge has effected our children. They are grown adults now. There are so many things going through my head. I feel a bit lost. I am making an appointment with my counselor to work with her on this.

Hi difficultlife,

Feeling like the life has been sucked out of you is tough, and many of us here understand the feeling. What is he like when he's home? How have the kids been affected?

Having a counselor was almost mandatory for me. The behaviors can be so confusing, and so painful. It really helped to have someone put things in context.

Do you have interests outside of your marriage, and a support network of people you can turn to? How is your relationship with your children?

Glad you found the site. It really does help to post  Smiling (click to insert in post)
