There is a commercial by a company called EDEKA.  It shows an older gentleman receiving phone calls from family saying they can't come home for the holiday.  Then, it shows a hospital scene, the family upset and crying, then they arrive "back home" to see Grandpa waiting for them with dinner ready saying "how else could I have brought you all together?"

I'm just wondering what you all think of this.  It is getting quite a bit of positive feedback.

What he did was horrible and deceitful. He totally lacked empathy for the grieve of his family.
Maybe grandpa is BPD   :-)

Ugh, I agree. This commercial left a seriously bad taste in my mouth.

I agree! After asking here I went back and looked at it on facebook.

It is actually from last year so there were plenty of responses.

Most were against the grown children! Saying how they are so selfish, how we as a society are so horrible to the elderly  in general.  There were comments about how "touching" the commercial is and that it shows the true meaning of the season.

I thought it was sickening.  What a terrible thing to put those (grown)children through.  He obviously lives in a nice home.  Couldn't he afford to go see them?  Did they go visit him at a different time of the year, when things were less busy for them (perhaps in the summer) and they were punished because they couldn't get there for the holiday?

I'm so glad some of you responded.  Thank you.  I was beginning to think I'm crazy    Smiling (click to insert in post)
