VIDEO: "What is parental alienation?" Parental alienation is when a parent allows a child to participate or hear them degrade the other parent. This is not uncommon in divorces and the children often adjust. In severe cases, however, it can be devastating to the child. This video provides a helpful overview.

Did anyone's ex ever get so out of control she screamed at her pet? I remember during one  of her episodes my ex started screaming at her dog. I  stepped in and asked her  "What did the dog do"? The dog doesn't even understand what's going on. She wanted children but seeing her   doing this to a innocent dog made me think that maybe it's not be a good idea.

Dad to my wolf pack

My BPD mother,  in addition to smacking me (for whatever reason) i  used to smack the little dogs we raised like my mother did. She bred Llasa Apsos, primarily. Sad to say,  I mirrored this until around 15 when I became aware that the dogs would sometimes cringe when I'd go to pet them nicely.  I made the connection, and never did it again.  I felt so guilty... .it was around that time I think I really detached and grew up.  I moved out on my 18th birthday and never spent a night in her home again.

My ex seemed to like my dog but she did do strange things, I had my dog for several years before I met Xw. My dog was use to being with me, came everywhere with me. In the beginning she was great to the dog but after we moved in, she wanted the dog locked in the porch sometimes she didn't want the dog in the house at all. It was mostly on terrible rainy nights she would want the dog out.

Mine was jealous of my dogs and would get angry if I would pay too much attention to them and complain that I couldn't always stay overnight with her because of the dogs. She would say: "what kind of a grown man needs to sit and cuddle with his dogs".  Even the counselor found this very odd. She had a dog of her own and clearly only got it for her kids as she treated it poorly and complained about it all  the time... .
