so, its an admittedly touchy subject, but when we set rules for a person (not to be mistaken for boundaries) and tell them how to behave or not behave, what they can and cannot do, what other word should we use to describe it?

is there anything we can learn or have learned?

Mine would be a condition: example : "I'm not having a relationship where you hang out with your ex".  She would promise to stop but would do it again and again.
