Bumped in to friend that's painted me black

So it finally happened. The thing I've been partly dreading.
This morning I bumped in to my friend at work. Someone who's seemingly painted me black, pretended I don't exist since September, and reacted with indifference to any kindness I've shown since then. I dreaded this since I thought it would hurt to see someone I care about ignore me, or react with anger to my face. I also dreaded it because I didn't know how I'd react.
And you know what? It didn't happen how I thought it would.
I looked directly at her, smiled and said hello. She looked pretty much everywhere except at me, and her reply was so quiet I have no idea what she said. She almost seemed guilty. It surprised me as you'd expect someone who believes they've done no wrong to not look away.
The whole situation has had a positive effect on me, but I don't know why. Guess it's relief.
I'm actually feeling a little proud of myself.

I've had that happen many times. I build up a scenario in my head imagining that it will play out chaotic and loud and violent, but then when it happens, it's quiet and peaceful.
Did you have conversation or just a passing "hi"?

Just a passing Hi. Wasn't really time for anything else, not that I was inclined to engage further anyway.
Happy leaving it at that.
