This past weekend was very dramatic and stressful. My husband was very suicidal and we almost ended up with another hospital stay.  :)ue to his thinking patterns and impulsivity, we were not sure if he would have a support system. Before the weekend his therapist told him that if he did not continue with dbt group (which triggered him terribly - both the group setting and her saying that to him), she would not be his therapist.
Last night, after attending the DBT class that his psychiatrist also said he had to continue, my husband rehired his therapist. He sent her this via email.
Everything is calmer now and I have hope that he will get what he needs.

Hi JustMe123,
This sounds like good news! How are you feeling?
with compassion, pearl.
p.s. I know at these times of crisis our SO's take up a lot of the bandwidth, so to speak, please make sure you carve out room for yourself and try not to get eclipsed by the drama if you can!

I am doing pretty well. I am calmer now too. For the most part, suicidal thoughts are part of his BPD make up and are there most of the time. I keep my calm until his behavior gets to critical mass
I am trying to figure myself into the caretaking more and more now. I am attending nami meetings and posting here. I also meditate every day so that helps keep me more level amidst the BPD chaos

Hi JustMe123,
Glad to hear you are feeling better! These care taking roles can be so hard! I only have this site for support in doing mine, but I really wish I had some in person support. Do you have others, aside from us here, that provide you support and understanding?
I have less personal experience with this suicidal threat issue than you it sounds, but I can say that even one of these episodes is immensely challenging. I can't imagine dealing with it regularly... .
What have you learned from all that have experienced? Do you have an internal set of rules or practices that you work from when it gets into this kind of chaos/breakdown?
warmly, pearl.

Hi JM, thank you for sharing. It sounds like it was a harrowing weekend. But glad some hope came out of it.
My wife recently agreed to give DBT a try. We are waiting for the doctor's appointment next week where they evaluate if someone should join. I think (or like to believe) her agreeing had to do with me reporting her taking my credit card to the police. It was the third time I brought the police in for stealing or destructive /violent behavior. Maybe the explosion created by her behavior made her see something. It might be the rare case that someone seeks help amid a period of calm.
I wish the best for you going forward.
