I live with my 20 year old daughter in north Detroit. Are there any family support groups in the area for BPD? Or on line?

Hi there.

I am relatively new to BPD or maybe I just come out of denial. My 20 year old daughter has had many diagnosis over the years: bi polar, ptsd, substance abuse...  But I really think she has emotional regulation issues or BPD.

I am feeling very isolated these days.  I have been to many support groups over the years, but I have been unable to find ones targeted to BPD.

I live in a northern Detroit suburb and just haven't been able to find anything in this area.  Is there something with meetings in my area?

Or is this message board the best available in my area?

I just discovered BPD NEA and they have an excellent training program for caregivers but not in my area.  I registered to take the course on line but really want to meet real caregivers with loved ones with BPD

I also am curious on DBT. How good is it?

I really need to have more support for her BPD.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi and welcome.

A lot of parents and family members come here for the support you are looking for.  So many of us experience similar struggles and share what works and what does not work in our situations.

I am not aware of any in person support groups in your area.  We have had members take online courses through BPD NEA and have found it quite helpful so I think you are on the right track there.

Can you tell us more about your daughter and yourself?  What have you already tried?  What is your biggest area of concern?

Sorry for all the questions.  Smiling (click to insert in post)  Answer when you can.  In the meantime, settle in and read and feel free to jump into other threads.  We all support each other here and we can learn a lot by helping others.

Welcome

My daughter now 21 and living on her own went thru many sessions of CBT therapy and it was beneficial when she stayed in therapy but staying in therapy is her problem!
