My ex girlfriend trying to get her back but her father has took his own life

We are still friends she fb massaged me said ask how I was doing she also said things would get better between me and her then I could tell something was up by her fb status I message her asked if she was okay she told me her dad took his own life
She told me about her dad him and her mother divorced when she was young she said he dad was a alcholoic who mentally phsyically and also sexually abused her when she was a child she would live with him at Christmas time she doesn't like Christmas he would also send her very nasty messages
I reminded her that she is a good person and I'm always there if she needs me also asked her if there was anything I could do to help she told me she was anger and sad and she never felt pain like pain she is going through right now
I haven't contacted her since a few days ago I think she might want time to herself and not want me to contact her when were together I treated her good I made a little mistake I didn't understand her disorder that well at first
It's a bit of a catch 22 I want to try and make her happy but I'm scared if I chase her and tell her nice things it will push her away but I'm worried about her too I wish we didn't break up I just want to be there for her and hug her she needs love and I know now I won't receive as much love as I give I'm okay with that but I need to be careful with the I love yous
What is the best way to handle this I'm thinking not contacting her for at least a month unless she reaches out to me I know it could take a while before I get her back and also she invited to go visit her once after we broke up I did I tried to get her back she said she wanted to see how we got on as friends for a while and made it clear it was not a no she was and has been giving me signs we will most likely end up back together but now she has lost her father
Her head wasn't in the right place for a relansonship when I was with her she was very happy at the start telling me she wanted to marry me and have children with me then she became distant after we broke up she ended up back in a mental hospital for a few days
Ps I don't think she hated he father all together she said there were good times it wasn't all bad I never met him anyway I think she's having mixed feelings she's mad at him for taking his own life but sad he is gone. She also said over FB messager he was meant to be a grandfather and walk her down the isle and give her away on her wedding day
I love and respect the girl I think she was distant because she didn't want to get hurt and she was just trying to protect her heart so what are the steps I'm going to have to take in order to win her back I know that's not going to happen anytime soon it could take months I'm going to wait for her

i lost my dad about two years ago.
its a hard place to be. i wanted a lot of space and didnt want to feel obligated to respond to people. but i wanted to know that people cared and were thinking of me. that meant the world.
you can do both. you might try taking her some food.
