I got a text from my son in law today asking, can you take the baby next weekend? I need to go away for work and ( my) daughter also has a work thing going on that she can't miss.
I texted back, love to.
That was it, no more questions, no problems, calendar empty would love to have the little guy and bonus know its helping out my kids.
That is not the way it would have been before. It would have gone something like this:
Me: The kids want us to take the baby next weekend because they both have to work. There is nothing on the calendar, are you OK with that?
Him: Why do they both have to work?
Me: I don't know, I didn't ask, sounds like an unexpected trip for son in law.
Him: Why would he just be finding out about the trip now?
Me: I don't know. Can I tell them yes?
Him: Don't they have anyone else that could look after the baby?
Me: I'm sure they do but they asked us.
Him: They never bring enough stuff out with him. Remember last time he didn't have his mitts.
Me: I'll make sure to tell them to pack everything. Is it OK if I tell them yes?
Him: You are always so tired and the weekend is the only time you have to rest. How are you going to rest with the baby in the house?
Me: Please, can I tell them yes we'll look after him?
Him: Do what you want, you always do anyway.
Love to. That's it, nothing more.

hahaha, yes the freedom is wonderful!
I have been experiencing this with my new fiancée. Things that would have required jumping through hoops with the exBPD are now solved with a 5 minute respectful conversation.
