I'm happy to announce that I have been reading all of the information on this site , and watching the short films. Today I decided to try a new technique, SET, support, empathy, test... . it was amazing, my dd compromised with no argument. I was able to stop what I was doing and focus fully on her, then I told her, I get it, I understood her desire(support ) I was able to clarify why I understood it, (empathy)and finally I was able to tell her that the answer was no and why it was no,( truth )she found a compromise that worked for everyone.  Hooray for our 1 st baby step.

Wow!  Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

Doesn't it feel good when we tippy-toe into the S.E.T. water and carefully find that it really isn't bad?

The more you do it, the easier it gets, and the better your relationship will get.

Amazing, no?

Congratulations, bpetersen514!

Im so happy for you bpeterson514, Smiling (click to insert in post)

Good communication is so important with our dds/ds. It seems to unlock a key to a door that allow us to do it get through to them without all the upset of previous attempts. It definitley takes practice but is so worth it.Just look how much things have improved after your very first attempt!

Looking back i sometimes shudder to think of how invalidating I  must have come across to my dd sometimes

Using SET has helped me not only with my dd but with other people too Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)
