what did he mean 'at least i know i was loved'?

When my ex was in the process of dumping me and i was trying desperately to get him to change his mind, he texted me 'at least i know i was loved'. i did not understand what he meant by this as i was still telling him i loved him. i took it to mean that he wasnt bothered about me or our relationship but that having been loved was wat he wanted. it didnt matter who by.  maybe the love he talked of was the love bombing phase not real true love because he left when we got to that part. i dont think he ever loved me at all because he went straight on to love again with the replacement.  any thoughts on what he meant by that phrase?
