My wife's stepmom handed her a book of childhood photos and mementos today.  With them were report cards from preschool, age 4.  On the report cars were written comments - that she cries and gets emotional sometimes for no reason, that she can't follow directions, needs to always voice her opinion, and doesn't work well under the direction of her peers (needs to be in charge).   This was from age 4!

I'm a scientist, so I take this all as curious, and a good record if someone wanted to study the onset and reasons behind BPD.  There were also some curiosities in her baby book regarding her first words.  I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has a very early record of BPD behavior from their SO.

Hi Max,

From a developmental viewpoint, there are genetic and biological factors that occur at an early age, which influence the onset. The environment/caretakers are additional factors. Essentially the behaviors are there at an early age, but psychopathology of BPD typically occurs in adolescence or early adulthood.
