Hello, it's been awhile since I've been on and I have a question.  My daughter has come to terms with her diagnosis and is trying to learn all she can about it.  She is in counseling but has meltdowns which she can't control.  She is also in a serious relationship now with a young man who knows her troubles and wants to help.  He is a Godsend.  Is there a place in the southeast where she can get specialized inpatient treatment for BPD.  She desperately wants to be able to function and recover.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Hello Schatzmum,

It is good to see you back and especially good to read the news that your daughter is ready for treatment.

I don't have a high level of working knowledge regarding adult inpatient... .my experiences were with adolescent inpatient.

There are 2 premier inpatient programs in the USA that I am aware of:

McLean in Cambridge, Mass

Menningers in Houston, TX

Both have excellent reputations and different programs and levels of inpatient care.

Both also use DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) in their programs.

How are you coping?  Is your d20 still in college?

Hi Schatzmum,

I don't have an answer to your question, but just wanted to say how fortunate it is that your D is coming to terms with her diagnosis, and is trying to learn everything she can about it. That is such a big thing, I felt the need to comment.  Smiling (click to insert in post)

And she has someone willing to stand by her and help, another silver lining. Also, you're cheering for her and trying to learn about RTCs in her area. How family responds makes such a big difference.

Would your D be willing to relocate to an RTC that was not close by? Maybe something closer to you and your family? Or perhaps a treatment center that you (and her boyfriend) would be willing to visit when appropriate?
