So my sister isn't the only one with mental health issues, we also have a cousin who is severely bipolar and currently losing his family of 17 years. My enabling Dad's way of dealing with this is to have 2 separate Thanksgiving dinners to separate those who can't get along. He made it a point to tell me that my sister is "ok with anything and anyone." Yeah right! Same chick who was screaming obscenities at me and my husband last month is now the peacemaker. LOL! It's so ridiculous, and my Dad buys into all of the bs (well sorta, over the years I think he's realized she has a lot of problems). But he avoids reality at all costs.
And yet still I miss my sister (not who she is now, but who she used to be when we were younger). Does it ever get easier?
So hubs and I have decided to head out of town to be with his (sane) family for Thanksgiving. Yay! I'm so excited! This will be my first family vacation around non-dysfunctional peeps. :-)

Hi Charlie3236,
We are looking forward to a nice Thanksgiving this year too... .Me, my son, my Honey, his 2 daughers and his mom. The normal (or at least we think so
) side of the family.
Below is a link to last year's "lovely" Thanksgiving the girls had with their uBPDmom ::... .

Enjoy your vacation! I'm in charge of the pies and sweetpotatoes this year... .yum!

My husband and children decided years ago that they would not attend any holiday festivities at my sister's home, because of all the negativity and drama. I think your plan is perfect. My own sister has always been this way, I have no happy memories of our childhood together. Our mother is dying right now, and when it is over, I will have no more reason to stay in contact with her. Not looking forward to my mother dying, but at the same time, I know that I will finally not have to deal with my BPD sister anymore.

Genny867,
It made me so sad reading your words which are so similar to my story. It's so difficult and painful to walk away. But not as painful as staying. :'(
