I am trying desperately to find out my rights to get my daughter immediately committed to Mental Facility for treatment for her safety. currently she is incarcerated in Lafayette County, Missouri jail awaiting court date. I fear for her safety. Hearing voices, seeing them, follow her around. They say they are mad at her for telling me about them. I get emails from my daughter but some seem to be from one of her followers, and don't make sense. Do I have any legal options of any kind to get her out of jail and to a mental facility without having to pay a large bond? With the holiday it has been impossible to reach any one other than the jail and don't like me asking questions about treatment there. What can I do?

Hmm, could you share more,  my ex, was arrested, bail was met, she committed 3 more  crimes, I was ontop of everything, had a lawyer, got her into a treatment center, and kept her out of jail, yes It's expensive.  Cost a lot of emotional stress.  So, pay the bond Monday, take her to a treatment facility, and get a lawyer.  Good luck.

She should have a court-appointed attorney.  Find his or her name.  Call this attorney and explain that your daughter is psychotic, hallucinating, and in need of immediate psychiatric treatment.

Hi Crazymom, sorry to hear of these difficulties.  Just wondering if your city/state has a Mental Health court.your daughter might apply to?  Hang in there!

Sorry you are going through this. Each county in Missouri handles things a little differently. I agree your best (really only!)  option is to bail her out and deal with the mental health issues yourself. You should be able to find out the bond amount. If they do not have that information yet, they should have it on Monday.

If she appears to be extremely mentally unstable, they could send her to a hospital for evaluation. Unfortunately, they usually will not give you much info. In Missouri, the person arrested must fill out paperwork requesting legal aid. That process takes a while unless they already have a legal aid lawyer from previous charges.  They also charge the inmate for visits to the nurse and medication.

I have been through years of this with my daughter in Missouri. She is now 24 and in prison for the 4th time (for one charge 8 years ago). I feel your pain and frustration!

As much as you want to help her, you also have to consider the ramifications.  If you pay her bond and she skips or gets herself arrested again, do you lose that money?  How far will you go if she continues ignoring or resisting your help.  As much as we say we'd do anything for our kids, there do have to be some limits, both practical (costs) and emotional (how it impacts us).
