Hello huting123,

What kinds of specific threats is he making, and how have you been responding? Is he close enough that you don't feel safe?

I’m so sorry your brother has been threatening you. My brother was very violent to me as a child. So probably worth doing a risk analysis. Ask yourself the following:

1)   Most people with a PD suffer from jealously and anger management issues. Are these what drive your bro’s threats ? If so, does he need help managing anger ? My bro was forced to go to anger management classes or lose his job. They did help.

2)   Past history is often the best indicator of future history with someone with a PD. They don’t change much. Has your brother been a threat in the past ?

3)   Most PD are inhibited from doing bad things as they care about what others think. However a very small number have no fear. This is particularly dangerous and may lead to reckless driving, an interest in extreme sports. A love of speed and or fighting sports.

The good news is most people with a PD, tend to resort to aggression as a last ditch attempt to manipulate. So people that are unable to charm/trick it out of you, are more likely to go that way. You really do need to tell us more for us to help. None of the above may relate to your bro, but you’ve done the right thing by trying to understand why this is happening. My bro is also a masochistic, which is another big red flag, as would be a hard drug addiction. Please do give us more details, if that would help you. Keep safe.
