Hello, I have a 16 year old daughter. I have had lots of people involved with different opinions. She has been given numerous adhd meds with either no results or some scary side effects (violence aggression on Dexedrine). finally a exhibits traits of BPD" diagnosis  was given and we were not given any support or treatment. she often speaks of suicide and uses marijuana daily. I can't seem to get any clear answers or treatment plans that will address the addiction and BPD. We live in Canada.Does anyone have any advice?

I want to welcome you to this site. This is a great place for support and I place to ask questions. I am Canadian but Have been living in USA for well over 20 years now. I know it is harder to find services in Canada. The USA has many facilities and it is a money making business.

Your child has drug addiction issues and BPD? Can I suggest you read "recovering our kids" by Dr Lee. Drugs really alter how our brains work and you can't treat one without the other.

What province are you in? MacMaster has a very good hospital in Hamilton Ontario. I have heard good things about them. There is a group in Toronto Called Sash Bear... .sashbear.org. I would reach out to them if you are in that area.

I would be careful with the ADHD meds... .some can really aggitate and the behaviour can get worse. There is also risk of the person abusing the meds if they have addiction issues. My dd loved adderral. I hope you can write back and let me know where you are living. I know it is a scary time for you but it is going to be okay. I suggest you read some of the articles here to the right. I think the first thing I had to learn is how better to communicate with my dd. The raging was just hard to deal with so I really think that was my first step.
