Welcome Janemurray: I'm sorry you are having a problem with your sister and with depression. Does your sister have BPD?
Do both you and your sister live with your parents? In what ways does your sister control your life?
You can set some
BOUNDARIES with your sister. Boundaries are for your benefit and protection. They are up to you to set and enforce. Click on the green link in this paragraph and read about boundaries. What are some boundaries you might want to set in regard to your sister's behavior?
You can't change your sister, but by learning some specific communication skills, you can make things better for you. If you look inside the large green band at the top of this page, there is a "Tools" menu with some links to lessons. You might want to check them out.
How long have you had a problem with depression? Does it appear to be seasonal (perhaps in the Fall/Winter), somewhat situational or consistent? Have you talked to anyone about it or gotten any therapy or treatment? Have you tried using exercise, mindfulness, meditation or any means of self-soothing to manage it?
If you are able to share some examples or problems with your sister's controlling behaviors, we can perhaps share some specific lessons.
Take care. I'm glad you joined our Community and we look forward to hearing more or your story. It can be helpful to write out what's bothering you.
