Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

I am looking for resources that will help me understand the divorce process. I am almost done with "Splitting" and have "Will I Ever Be Free Of You?" and "Stop Walking on Eggshells" queued up. What else should I be reading, especially about divorce?

Hi Psalm119,

Welcome and hello  Smiling (click to insert in post)

I'm sorry for the pain and suffering that brings you here. And glad you found the site.

There are some Lessons at the top of this board that might be useful.

This article about how to take an assertive approach to a high-conflict divorce (based on Eddy's work) might also be very useful for you. Do you already have a lawyer?

In your other post, it sounds like there might be some alienation going on, with your kids having a hard time knowing who you really are. I recommend reading Dr. Craig Childress's work (he has youtube videos, and lots of material that you can find online).

It's understandable if you feel weird about posting things online. I just want to say that I didn't find a better place to ask questions. The community here changed the trajectory of my divorce in so many ways I lost count.

Collective wisdom can be really helpful when you are in the wilderness trying to find your way.

Either way, we understand.

You're not alone.
