Moving back in with my mom who has BDP

Hello,

I am a 23 year old female. Due to some personal life events I will be moving back home with my mom who has BDP. I am terrified.

I moved out last April because of how toxic and damaging the relationship was on my overall mental health, self esteem, and personal development. Do you know if there are any resources or things I can do to protect myself from this happening again?

I am glad you are reaching out to us as there are many members on this site who have lots of experience living with a mother with BPD. Clearly there are differences and yet many similarities in daughter and mother with BPD relationships. My mother with BPD passed away this year, and I also have two siblings with BPD. From my experience, interacting as little as possible with my mother even when in the same house while accepting she had no capacity for reciprocal conversations/interactions helped me to have less traumatizing interactions with her. Can you tell us more about the relationship with your mother and what you fear the most?
