I looked for this dx - have you checked out this educational site?
www.mcdd.webs.com/What kind of evaluations have been done? Scales or checklists for eveyone in your ds enviroment - ie. school and home?
My gd7 is kind of in this process. We have been working with a T since she was age 4 and her mom was evicted from our house - homeless for 20 months and now back in our family for 18 mos. My dh and I, as grandparents, have had custody since she was a baby.
Evlauated by pdoc last summer - list of observations from school, home and T - led to long list. ADHD indications, anxiety and possible PTSD issues, possible learning disabilities. She is on a med that helps with the hyperactive issues and some with anxiety. The stimulant (time release form) pushed her into aggressive behaviors - just like her mom - so only did 2 day trial of those.
It is so messy with young children. Do not want to use meds that could have cognitiive side-effects, insomia, loss of appetite, etc. What are the symptoms that you ds meets on the McDD criteria checklist at the website I listed above. Maybe this can give you a starting place to disucss this with the doc.
Hang in there - let us know how things are going.
