i am trying to 'cope' with the BPD parent i am living with currently. I have PTSD and fibromyalgia so i am not able to work full time right now and live on my own. My goal is to get well physical and mentally so that i can work full time and leave.
So while I am here and trying to get healthier , I am trying to use all the coping skills i know how.
the major one, is to simply stay away as much as possible, and this has been the best coping skill so far.
whenever i engage her at all... eventually it ends up in a screaming match. It happened today and I am soo mad at myself for the physical reactions i get from her.
I know that no one can tell someone what medication to take... i am not asking for that.
I am just wondering if anyone has taken anti-anxiety medication that has helped them.
The doctor says he doesn't want to give me xanax of klonopin becuase, according to research, it has been shown to exacerbate PTSD symptoms
such as night terrors in the long run.
I have tried a few other things that I had a bad reaction to . I was wondering if any ptsd or anti-anxiety medication has helped anyone. If so... i would like to suggest it to my doctor and see what he says. He is not totally with it... so if anyone has any med suggestions that i can ask him to check out, i would appreciate it.
And if i had money I would completely be getting someone else... but he is from the county and it took a long time to even get this guy... so my best thing is to do the research on my own and give him suggestions which he can check out. that is basically what i have been doing for the past year.

I have severe anxiety issues (agoraphobia, social anxiety, panic attacks), and I take Zoloft. It really takes the edge off for me.

Hi diega,
I'm sorry things are so rough right now. Dealing with PTSD is hard enough without other health problems and trying to cope with difficult people. Staying away does help, doesn't it? I'm not sure if you've looked into SET or DEARMAN, but those are really helpful too. They tend to defuse or soften tensions so that there are less screaming matches.
Ooh, I hope you find a medicine that works for you. I take anti-anxiety meds for OCD, and it tends to help. Maybe you could ask your doctor to look into other anti-anxiety meds for you or other treatment? Therapy and EMDR are often suggested for PTSD. If you have a therapist, maybe you could ask him/her about getting some help.

Thank you both. It's just the doctor i see says he has no idea what to give me, that i haven't already tried or am not allergic to for anxiety and I was through the roof dealing with mBPD . I thought... i should have something for emergencies. It was that I was having normal stressors like tearing a PCL and not having insuarance and not being able to walk and that day i just couldn't handle her meanness. it was jut too much. i was overtaken by i-don't -know-what. it was just uncontrollable. I know it doesn't help gettiing upset with the BPDm . its like my body would not listen to my will. ptsd i guess. I will check out SET and DEARMAN. thanks again to you both. I think I need to post more BEFORE i get past the point rather than after the fact.
