What is your sexual orientation: Straight

I'm currently living with my soon-to-be husband and his brother.  Brother is a wonderful person... . I really am very fond of him.  However, I do wonder at times whether or not there is a bit of dysfunction there.  He has a good job, and has never been unemployed.  I'm just trying to understand him a bit better as he does have some quirky behavior.  Everybody in the family seems to except his behavior, but they realize it is perhaps a bit unusual.  He has a great attachment to the Weather Channel... . which he watches with great relish most of the time he is at home... . almost as though he can "control" the weather by watching it.  He also is outside a lot, watching the clouds and the wind directions.  I am very familiar with BPD as I have done much research on it as I believe my father(deceased) suffered from it.  Actually, there is some dysfunction with many others in my bf's family, like alcoholism, but there are two siblings who are well-educated and appear to be normal, well-adjusted individuals.

Doing the right thing (click to insert in post) dagwood,

Welcome We are glad you found us!  Do you believe your husband's brother has BPD?  It was a bit hard for me to decipher from your post.

You said you do believe your father suffered from BPD.  I'm sorry about his passing.  I believe my mother suffers from it, so I understand any confusion you might be feelings.  There is also a lot of alcoholism in my family.

There are some great resources here, and wonderful people, too!  This video crystallized some things for me:

Phoenix, yes, I'm sorry... . the person I'm speaking of is my BF's, brother with whom we live ... . not being very articulate today.

Thank you very much for replying and for the video.  My father died 13 years ago, but some of the "sting" still lingers

dagwood,

I'm sure some of the sting still lingers, and thank you for the clarification on your boyfriend's brother.

When a family member has BPD, the illness can negatively everyone in the family system, including children, siblings, and in-laws. Senior members on the [L5]  Coping and Healing from a BPD Parent, Sibling, or Inlaw board are experienced with and can help you with setting boundaries, finding relief from FOG, encouraging self-care, improving your handling of relationships impacted by your BPD relative, and pursuing a path of recovery from traumatic experiences. The validation, information, and support will give you strength on your journey.

We are here to help you.   Smiling (click to insert in post)
