That's terrible. I have been the subject of a smear campaign from Day 1 and the relationship lasted seven years.
I think of my friend who was in this position. It took 15 years for the people in his community to apologise to him for getting it wrong and listening to his ex-wife. He had gotten on with his life, became successful and highly admired in his community so their apologies were not needed.
As much as it hurts, the trick is to get on with your life and the people in your community will see you for the person that you are and the person that she is. It may take time but you will come out on top.
And even if they DON'T(!) accept you back, cut your losses.
When broken, don't hold back on old privileges, old words, they don't mean jack bean sh!t anymore. Rewrite words.
