By now, I am used to my BP friend telling lies at different times for no apparent reason.  I usually just kind of ignore them, rather than confront or question her, and that's usually the end of it.

E.g. one time when she left for vacation she told me she was moving away for good (only to return 3 weeks later saying she'd changed her mind).  Another time when she'd been giving me the silent treatment for 2 weeks, she resumed contact saying she'd been in the hospital with "viral pnemonia".

There are loads of other examples and by now I think I'm pretty good at telling when she's lying.

But now she's saying that she has some incurable disease and "doesn't have much time left" ... .but this time she keeps bringing it up (unlike the usual lies which usually come up once and are forgotton).

I told her that I really care about her but that I don't know how to respond to that because she's told me so much bullhit in the past that I find it hard to believe her.  I'm guessing she's doing this for sympathy or to "test" me to see if it upsets me.

Have any of you been in a similar situation?  I'm not sure what to do... .

Hypochondia and other such victim role plays, is very common. There is not really much you can do about it, over valiation feeds it. To much truth is triggering. Just acknowledge she has said it and move on with distraction
