Do memories fade (the bad ones) after NC ?

I have found that as this is the longest time I have gone VLC with Mom. The memories have got brighter more regular (every day). Like my brain is trying to remind me, so I carry on my quest to go NC... ."don't give her benefit of the doubt, Remember why"
After you go decide NC. Do the memories stop popping up as often? Do you go back to what you were like before VLC?
(Weird because they didn't before but are more so now that i am thinking about never seeing mommy dearest/witch again)

It really depends on the person. I've been NC with my parents (I'm now LC) and while I was NC, I found that the memories were more regular and intense. For other members, it seems like NC settled things down.
What do you think is causing the memories to come up? Do you find that certain times, places, scents, sounds, or other stimuli bring on the memories?

Hiya
GeekyGirl
,
I think it could be the time of year & anxiety of going NC. I have a feeling I'm going to have to ride this, like it's part of it all. This feels like a different stage of the recovery; not too dissimilar from walking up a massive load of steps then standing at the top before going down a water slide.
Most memories come up when I'm standing at the kitchen sink... .a mindless activity but interestingly it's one of my most lasting memories of my Mom: standing in front of a sink, she was forever cleaning and weirdly used to drop in emotive conversations whilst standing at one (giving no eye contact).
Thanks for the interesting probe GeekyGirl. Great stuff.
