Hi

A recent thread touched on the topic of people who talk compulsively and interrupt when you finally have the chance to speak. When this happens, I feel "choked" and robbed of my voice. I also feel angry that I listened to them without cutting them off, and now I say one sentence and get interrupted in the 2nd one!

Possible motivations of theirs include having inner chaos that they need to vent so it does not get bottled up (as a member wrote on the other thread). Other motivations can be co-occuring ADD, anxiety, rudeness, lack of social skills, domination, control, etc.

I had thought of using one of the skills like SET or DEARMAN, but fear I would get interrupted by sentence two!  It is also tricky because they might do this when we are alone, and also do it in front of a group of strangers or friends (which might call for a different response).

It is true that we cannot change their behavior, but I feel uncomfortable getting stifled and stepped on, doing all the listening and little talking!
