Do high functioning BPD ever get it

My ex is 50.  She was diagnosed as a teen.  Went thru therapy and became very high functioning.  I met her about nine years ago and would never have known.  Almost 4 years ago our relationship rekindled and we became more than friends.

At first I saw nothing.  But if I look back the red flags were there.  Things have escalated though over the last 2 years from her becoming more and more physically ill... . her children leaving the home and then the icing on the cake was leaving her job and losing her aunt.

So I don't know if it is age or all the losses or the deterioration of our relationship or all of the above.

I do know one thing... . she is absolutely terrified of being crazy.  We had many discussions about why her initial diagnosis had to be false... .
