My ex tends to remember every little detail for years ago ( both positive and negative). Is this something common in people having BPD or not?

Some people just have great memories. It doesnt have to do with BPD or any other PD. It all is how they just recall things. I have a fantastic memory but I base a lot off stuff on where I was at the time (was in military and moved around a lot so remember things based on where I was)

Out of curiosity... .why do you ask?

It tends to be what they consider important. Where as we tend to focus on how we felt, and how events made us feel, because of their disassociative tendencies they tend to remember things clinically, and without emotional connection, it tends to aid the remembrance of detail. They will however remember every bad thing you ever did. But not what they did.

We should start a new thread on possible BPD traits.

In the last 24 hours I've read post suggesting drinking lots of liquids, left handedness and now good memory.

My ex could forget entire episodes of her life. It was bizarre.

We're all different and so are they

They have keen memory for every bad thing that was ever said to them. Absolutely a BPD trait and in fact there is a 45 min video on the main page here in which three BPD clients speak about just this.  Unfortunately, they don't remember the other things the same way we nons do. Their memories of the cycling events, push pull, splits, are much more dissociative.  For instance, they may say you left them when you are split black, rather than recognizing all the torment they inflicted in between.

Mine drank non stop, alcohol when out then during the week some alcohol but mostly juices, pints and pints of juice, she was however right handed, her memory was very good also although mine not so good, so couldn't argue with her, although what she remembers and what she would divulge are 2 different things.

My uBPDstbxw always claimed a good memory, but as others have said it was really only related to things that she perceived as hurtful/negative and the recollection was often based in her feelings about a situation, not the statement of events.

The other big thing was claiming to have a great memory and then gas lighting a situation, with the follow up, "Well of course you don't remember, you have a bad memory!"  Any disagreement of her facts was simply my poor memory, my denial from FOO, or how unimportant she was to me that I couldn't remember, or sometimes all three.

NO WAY. Mine had a penchant for polish vodka, her bf bought her apple sourz for her birthday... she quickly devoured that. She loved pure orange juice, yet she had stomach problems - probably because of that fact she 'apparently' hardly ever ate anything - yet she claimed it was something to do with stomach acid issues.

I think the fruit juice comes from the eating disorders BPDf seem to have - its a good way of keeping blood sugar up, which helps quench hunger pangs.

Every other thing she said was a lie, in fact neigh... everything she said was a lie.
