So... .yeah.
Not where I thought I'd end up, but work are making me go and I think it could be a good thing.
I've never been to counselling before. Does anyone have any tips or anything to get the most from it?

I'm in counseling now. Keep an open mind, be open and know it takes time.

Counseling here too! I sabotaged in the begining... .Awefull I know. Told her the rough outlines of my r/s, but not the whole extend yet... .I was still in the r/s and was scared of the outcome... .She is a clever lady though and made some comments here and there that got me thinking! I ended the r/s and now I am working on why I allowed it to happen/continue.
Counseling is great, you can talk and vent and get great insight to your own behaviour!
Nothing you cant handle yet have to be discussed, its totally up to you.
It takes time... .A lot of time... .But its not as scary as I thought it would be!

Thankfully my stbxw and I started to go to couples therapy before she decided to have an affair.
I had already established a solid relationship with our therapist so it was easy for me to continue the process
after she left me for another man.
If it wasn't for the therapist I'm not sure if I'd be alive today. I was that shocked and devastated from the
aftermath of my stbxw leaving me with an exit affair.
I can't imagine going through, what I'm going through, without professional help. I recommend everyone who's
been involved with a PD to seek therapy.
Keep it up! And don't be afraid to shop around if you don't connect with the first therapist you find.

My tips are, be patient with them and yourself, say if you feel like you're not getting what you need. And more than anything try to trust and open up as best you can, it can take a long time. If all else fails try a different counselor.

I'm in counselling too and find it really helpful. The first couple of sessions or so I didn't find it helpful, wasn't sure what I expected, but the sessions weren't it and I didn't feel it was helping at all. I kept going and it sort of crept up on me. Now I find it really good. If after a while you feel its not helping, try a different counsellor, its a bit like finding a good GP - there are some good and not so good ones out there. Good luck with it!
