I'm 30 male and after being discharched after being an inpatient to an addiction specialist with an interest in pediatrics I am finally getting dbt.

All throughout life my parents were told i would grow out of ODD, I did but I was never given any long term care. At 17 I was offered medication without a diagnosis. I was even misshapenly treated for anxiety before impulsivity by a professor of psychology, to our detriment.

Last week I was interviewed for two hours for a BPD study. I'm pretty ___ing bitter about having suffered ptsd before getting diagnosed.

Anyway currently on zoloft and risperidone to stop me killing my aspd Godfather. Doing dbt next month for 6 months.

Hi WindTurbine

Can I buy a vowel?    JK

Sounds like you have been through the wringer, mate. I am very sorry to hear it. As to your title of this post, unfortunately many symptoms can overlap and many diagnosticians can be influenced by other agenda. In any case I am sorry you didn't get the appropriate diagnosis at first. Have you had a BPD diagnosis? It's relatively new to being formally included in the DSM and many MANY therapists in Australia are unfamiliar with it (I tried 8 therapists and counselling services in WA to no avail - either they didn't know what it was or were loth to treat someone who has it or someone whose family member /partner has it). However there ARE resources available to you although it may take some determined searching on your part to find. if you do have the diagnosis then it is to your credit that you are taking steps to address it. DBT has had great successes and I really hope you are well on the way.

Unfortunately though this site is more geared toward support for family and friends and thus you may find some of the content either triggering or upsetting.

You may wish to have  a look at the site that is specifically geared to assisting BPD sufferers.

Here's the link:

Resources for BPD Sufferers

best wishes with your journey, WindTurbine. And good on you for stepping up.

Thanks Smiling (click to insert in post)

I can better understand now.

As for being triggered, I do on every forum but i have learnt to excuse things.

I hate BPD just as much as family members do if not more but i don't take the hate personally, because everyone is different.

I will check out the link thanks.
