Anyone know if it's possible to develop PTSD as the result of the rages/behaviors of a BPD parent?  I am battling with some of the same issues that someone with PTSD does in certain situations and relationships and wondering if this is because of the fear and distrust that my mother's rages and behaviors instilled in me as a kid.

Anyone know if anything has been written about this, or have also battled PTSD?

PTSD= Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Hi Jman.  Sure.  I was diagnosed with complex PTSD (c-PTSD) which is a better fit than PTSD for people raised in abusive environments.

There is tons of info out there on it, just make sure you add the word complex to your searches.

Are there any specific things you want to talk about?

Yes!

Like hari said the term is coined complex ptsd.  It is a fairly interesting topic and it covers a very broad spectrum.  The concept speculates that add all the way up to BPD and npd are all varying forms of complex ptsd.  When viewed in this way it also makes it easier to have compassion for a pwBPD.

It really is surprising how shaped by our environment and upbringing we are.

In France a long time ago they found a wildchild in France who grew up alone in the woods. The child could strip naked and run around In freezing temperatures unaffected.

Jman-

I was diagnosed with complex PTSD as well as a panic disorder and major depression.  I got help from a great therapist who specializes in Sand Play Therapy.  Your instinct is spot on; a lot of kids of BPDs develop this disorder that can mimic certain borderline qualities.  I believe they're called "fleas" here  PD traits .  Good luck
