My sister

Hello,

My sister has BPD and also a serious chemical dependency. She has lost everything and refuses to get help. I so badly want ti get her into treatment. I'm afraid if I don't she'll lose her life.

I was wondering if anyone has experience with getting their loved one into treatment and how they did it?

I'm really sorry to hear of your sister's difficult situation. You must be in a lot of pain from it and it is great that you want to help.

Unfortunately I don't have experience with getting a loved one into treatment for either of those problems but I have got myself into treatment for addiction. It's not something that comes easy as you know. Me I came to the same brink of losing everything. It was a choice I had to make but I was forced to by my situation.

One thing was I resisted strongly the people who were trying to help. They drew back and disappeared except for the very hardiest. And they pressed on. Kept on telling me I needed to get help.

One critical thing was they stopped helping me. No money. No lifts to dealers. Suspicious of my requests - that REALLY helped as i was willing to lie to get my way.

All I can advise is to keep on being present without being enabling. Be firm in your conviction and it may have an effect.

In the meantime, don't forget to care for your own needs. She will need you healthy and well rested if and when things turn around for her.

Btw was your sister diagnosed with BPD? If there has been a diagnosis are you able to access some professional help through that agency?
