Every day is a gift. Live it fully

« on: February 02, 2015, 06:14:52 PM »

She has somehow gotten into my Gmail account and deleted all the evidence of her admitting physical abuse to me amongst other evidence over the last year.  Someone has helped her hack in. And she stole my laptop last week. How did I not see this coming? She is so unbelievably clever.

Aw Moselle

Don't have any legal advice, but you could definitely use some right now.  Be prepared for just about anything.  Ugh.

Be true to who you are!

If you responded to any of them, you might also check your sent mail files. Most people only delete the stuff in the inbox and forget about the outbox.

Post a separate thread about this.  I know we have some computer geeks out there that might be able to help.

Do you think it's a "real" hack, or she had a friend help guess your password?

By now I hope you changed it, adding whatever special characters are allowed to make it bullet proof.

You could contact google support and try to get them to assist in recovering the deleted data. It's backed up somewhere.

Since you are still living together, I'd suggest investing in a lockable dock. If she really dysregulates, I suppose she might smash it, or "accidentally" spill something on it. Can you secure it at night in your car or somewhere else safe?

It would cost more money, but you might want to consult with a computer forensics specialist for help as well.

If the message is not older than 30 days it will be in the bin folder in gmail.com.  Hope they weren't that clever and you can retrieve.

Go in to your admin site and change your password /account security questions/answers to something that your wife could not possibly know, even if the answers are nonsense. Example... what was your high school mascot? Cockroaches.

I've read of someone who set up a dummy e-mail account and would forward copies of the emails there.

Gmail isn't the only thing she will hack into. Change your passwords and password recovery questions on EVERYTHING.

I tend to be lazy... .and keep the same "kind" of passwords... the same "thoughts"... .even though I add in special characters

That is why you need something whacky... .but catchy so you can remember.

Anyone know if there is a way to separately lock google drive... .or put passwords on files that are in there.

Last thought... .Google has "google for government" and business accounts... .they are like... .$50 per user... .another $50 for archiving to meet open records laws.

You may be able to get one of those.

Good news is that you can have complete admin control over it... .and there is a special support division.

One option is that every access from a weird IP or device must be approved by admin... .that would be helpful if they try this again.

Absolutely do this.  I have multiple Gmail accounts and most of my main accounts forward to each other.  You can also share documents between Google Drive accounts.  I usually end up with two or three copies of every email.  Most of this has nothing to do with my r/s situation but rather as an adjunct to my middle-aged memory  Smiling (click to insert in post)  But it is coming in handy nowadays.

Also I second what FF says-- In addition to my personal Gmails I am an admin for our Google Apps domain at work.  The cost is $50 is per year per user.  You can also pay by the month or prepay and have Google charge against the prepayment on a month by month basis.  It gives you additional administrative options as he said.

Google itself does not offer an option to password protect individual Drive folders but there are free third-party apps that do the job.  BoxCryptor is one.

www.pcworld.com/article/2040322/free-google-drive-tools-youre-not-using-but-should-be-.html

Good luck and if I can answer any Google questions feel free to PM me.

https://support.google.com/a/answer/112445?hl=en

You can get them back, follow instructions here.  Also, change PW, new e-mail account and make the PW on the old e-mail account bullet proof.  Onceyou have a new e-mail account (g-mail as well) put both e-mail accounts onto a outlook client and move them all accross.  They will move from one account to the other and still be intact.  Never EVER, use the new e-mail account to message your ex-wife.

You have a 25 or 30 day timeline to act and get your e-mails back.   Doing the right thing (click to insert in post)

Better getting them sooner though.
