Before you can make things better, you have to stop making them worse... Have you considered that being critical, judgmental, or invalidating toward the other parent, no matter what she or he just did will only make matters worse? Someone has to be do something. This means finding the motivation to stop making things worse, learning how to interrupt your own negative responses, body language, facial expressions, voice tone, and learning how to inhibit your urges to do things that you later realize are contributing to the tensions.

I received an e-mail from one of her friends congratulating me about the engagement (we've broken up a month ago). Saying that she doesn't know the details but the ex just texted her a picture of the ring.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Forgot to edit this in: I'm going to let the friend know that we decided it was best that we part ways.

I would just ignore it if I were you.

Unless you know her friend well enough to chat about the situation, otherwise seems like attentions seeking.

Hi never,

Wow, she just received a text of the ring? And your ex is implying to her friend that the engagement is still on? What are you going to gain by correcting this misinformation, as it obviously was intentionally done? I see a dialogue waiting to open here.

Yes, she was a friend of hers that I met years ago and met again recently on our last vacation while I was still together with me ex. I realize now that my ex used to 'brag/idealize' me to this friend all the time.

I was really surprised when I received the email, "just received a picture of the ring!"

You are right, what would I accomplish by correcting this info? Nothing.

Thanks for the input apollo!

Hey Chili1986, I don't know her well at all, only through my ex. Thanks for the input

I would not respond and I would bet that this is some sort of warped attempt at contact by your ex... .why would someone you barely know email you?  I bet there both in on the email.

Thank you for your reply everyone. I kept the reply very short and simple so in case she wants an explanation she can talk to my ex.

She replied with saying she was sorry for the breakup and that I can call her if I need anything or want to go out for drinks.
